Frequently Asked Questions
What does this speed test actually measure?+
This tool measures real network latency using the browser Performance API. It tests DNS lookup time, Time To First Byte (TTFB โ how long until the server starts responding), and total connection time. These are the same metrics used by Google PageSpeed Insights and professional network diagnostic tools.
Why is my proxy connection slower than direct browsing?+
Every proxy adds latency because your request travels to the proxy server first, then to the target website, and back again. This round trip adds a minimum of 20โ80ms depending on where the proxy server is located relative to you. A geographically distant proxy server adds significantly more latency than one located nearby.
What is a good latency score for proxy browsing?+
Under 200ms total load time is excellent for a proxied connection. 200โ500ms is acceptable for general browsing. Over 500ms will feel noticeably slow, and over 1000ms makes interactive web use frustrating. For streaming video, aim for under 300ms.
Why does the speed vary between tests?+
Network latency is never constant. Server load, routing changes, congestion on intermediate networks, and your local connection quality all vary second to second. Run multiple tests and use the average result as a reliable benchmark rather than a single reading.
Can this tool test whether a proxy is working?+
This tool tests raw connection speed from your current browser. To verify whether your proxy is actually masking your IP, use the IP Address Checker alongside this one. Run the IP checker before and after connecting to your proxy โ if the IP changes, the proxy is working correctly.
Why can some URLs not be tested?+
Browser security policies (CORS) limit detailed timing data for certain cross-origin requests. When that happens, this tool uses available network timing data instead. Sites that block all external connections show a timeout result โ confirming the site is inaccessible from your current connection.
